As a beauty blogger, I have had the great joy of testing many skincare brands over the years and I get the most excited when trying out new up-and-coming brands. I enjoy documenting my thoughts online as I myself always turn to the internet when it comes to reviews of a product I am considering purchasing. That being said, I was recently introduced to Protecia*, a Canadian-founded and Korean-made skincare brand that caters to those of us living in an urban environment. With this lifestyle comes exposure to higher levels of pollution which leads to what has been termed by dermatologists as "city skin," whereby our pores get more clogged, as opposed to if one lived outside of an urban setting. Aimed to protect the skin, Protecia was created to combat dryness, irritation, dark spots and premature aging which often come from living in a metropolitan area. I was so intrigued by the mission statement of Protecia, and I am so excited to share my insights after testing the entire line over the last few weeks.
The first product I've been reaching for is the Purifying Face Wash. It has a beautiful creamy texture which emulsifies with water and does a great job at dissolving any face makeup left over from the day. If I have a full face of makeup, I make sure to do a double cleanse by repeating this first step to make sure I've removed everything thoroughly. Creamy cleansers are my favourite, as someone with sensitive and acne-prone skin, I find them less drying. This is definitely one of my favourite face cleansers I have tried it a while, it's just that good! It is made with a water and glycerin base, and contains centella asiatica, licorice and rosemary extract.
Next up is the Clarifying Toner which I use daily after cleansing. I simply soak a cotton pad and sweep it over my face and neck, and it helps boost moisture as well as provides my skin with a radiant glow while helping minimize the appearance of pores. It contains both polyglutamic and hyaluronic acids which are humectants, meaning they retain moisture from water and help maintain skin's elasticity. Some toners feels a bit too stripping or irritating on my face, but this one is gentle and does not cause a reaction in my redness-prone skin. I stick to using it once a day, but it can be used morning and night as well.
The Vitamin Spa Serum is like an energy boost for the skin - it contains ten encapsulated vitamins that release to hydrate the skin including niacinamide which helps reduce inflammation and redness. The bottle is so well thought out too, the pipette fills up with just enough product as you unscrew the cap, and you just have to press down on the button to release it. The serum doesn't feel heavy or oily, and I just love the application experience overall because of its smooth, non-sticky texture. It absorbs fast too so I can layer moisturizer on quickly after!
Moving on to moisturizer, the Good Morning Moisturizer is a brightening day cream that glides onto and melts into the skin beautifully. It feels very light and still allows your pores to breathe through your daily activities while also protecting your skin from pollution. It is great for all skin types and I find I can skip using a primer if doing my makeup since foundation glides on wonderfully on top. It has a water and glycerin base as well as date and fig extract. My skin defintely feels more radiant and plump after using this product.
The one product that intrigued me the most is the Overnight Duo Cream Treatment because I have not come across anything like it before! It is made up of a gel essence which you apply first and then follow up with the nourishing cream mask which you leave on overnight to work its magic, no rinsing required. It contains anti-inflammatory herbal extracts like jasmine, lavender, sage and thyme that help regenerate skin cells and help keep the skin nice and hydrated. It really is a great recovery duo to help soothe the skin from the day's environmental aggressors and regenerate the skin overnight.
What stood out to me right away about Protecia is the strikingly gorgeous and sleek packaging. I just love the simplicity and sophistication it exudes! Better yet, the line is made up of clean ingredients and is cruelty-free, and you do not have to worry about silicone, parabens, sulfate, phthalates or gluten being in these products. All products in this collection have a lovely yet very subtle citrus scent derived from natural fragrances that are non-irritating on my skin which I absolutely LOVE! The whole line is very fresh and invigorating and makes the application process all the more fun.
Which Protecia product would you like to try?
