This winter has been one for the books with many days and nights feeling close to -40°C with wind chill. Now, we are accustomed to frigid temperatures here in Canada in the winter months, but the arctic air sure has been a stubborn guest this month, beating records of extreme cold and my skin sure has taken a beating! Thankfully, I have a trusty water softening system as well as a few body care saviours which together have been of great help to not turn my skin into the Sahara desert. Our skin is our largest organ after all, so I try to treat it as best as I can when it's in need of some extra TLC.
I tend to develop a bit of eczema in the colder months, and hence was so elated when I was introduced to The Beauty Of Eczema last year! Made in the UK and founded by Camille Knowles who deals with eczema herself, this Moisturizing Cream* is perfect for those of us with reactive skin. Vegan and cruelty-free and made with sweet almond oil, glycerin, oat kernel oil and mango seed butter among other naturally derived ingredients, I slather my body in this stuff after showering and it keeps my skin soft and supple all day long. It is even safe for babies! It has a barely noticeable scent, so great for those of you who prefer something subtle.
Speaking of perfumed body creams, the Sol De Janeiro Brazilian Bum Bum Cream is known for its intoxicating tropical scent that lingers. I caved and purchased this gem because of the rave reviews I kept coming across and while I will say the scent is very strong at first, it does gradually lessen and lasts for a good 8+ hours on my skin. I've gotten many compliments while wearing it, as it kind of doubles as a body spray, which is why I avoid wearing other scented products when I have it on.
A recent discovery I didn't think I would enjoy this much is the Boscia Peptide Youth-Restore Firming Body Serum*. I can't remember trying a body serum before but this has been a serious game-changer! I actually started using this body serum last summer and it was great to have something more lightweight in the hot and humid months but it actually also transitions superbly into the colder months. It can be used as the first step before applying a body cream or lotion or can be used on its own. It's non-sticky and my skin drinks it right up - great if you are looking to get into your warm clothes quickly without having to wait it out. It contains glycerin, squalane, calendula, ginger root extract and jojoba extract, you know, all the good stuff. ;)
For those times when nothing seems to cut it, the glorious Purple Tree Pomegranate Miracle Balm* comes to the rescue. Keep blowing your nose and dealing with flaky skin? Chapped lips giving you a hard time? Cuticles painfully remind you just how unhappy they are? This stuff right here truly is a miracle in a small but mighty tube. I've dealt with all of the above and I cannot say enough good things about this product that is petroleum-based. It can even tame eyebrows and elongate the appearance of eyelashes - now that's just wild! I am coming on empty and definitely need to get my hands on some more.

I love love LOVE bum bum cream! I ran out of mine but couldn't bring myself to buy another (which I will again I miss using it!) but if you are ever in a bind, Tree House has a dupe called Tropic Glow! It's not EXACTLY the same smell but it is very similar.
ReplyDeleteI love La Roche-Posay lipikar! I use that on days/nights when my face needs extra hydration. Which has been a lot lately.
The moisture cream is a must for dry season like winter. The top picks collected by you is awesome!
ReplyDeleteGreat suggestions. This is the first winter my four-year-olds have developed a little bit of eczema. It has been freezing this year, and we are not even in February yet, fun times ahead. Is the eczema cream suitable for all ages?
