Sothys Summer Chill Collection | Review + Makeup Look

Sothys Summer Chill Collection Makeup

I always look forward to seeing the makeup Sothys releases, and this year's Spring/Summer collection is no exception! I am a summer baby through and through, so when I saw that they had named their latest one the Summer Chill Collection*, I was immediately drawn to it. I got my hands on a few items from this limited edition release, namely a blush, bronzer, eyeshadow palette, lip pencil, two lip crayons and nail polish. I figured I might as well show you how these apply and how you can easily achieve a wearable look using them together, so I have also put together a video showing you exactly how I have been using these products.

Sothys Blush 40 Rose Estival Bronzing Powder 40 Terre Lointaine

The first thing I noticed is that Sothys has changed the packaging of their mirrored compacts to a magnetic closure, which makes them so much easier to open as with past ones they were tricky to get into, so this is definitely a nice upgrade. The Sothys Blush in 40 Rose Estival ($52.95) I would describe as a peachy pink with a slight shimmer. I've been on a matte blush kick for a while now, but since using this one I've not gone back. It isn't overly pigmented, which is what I prefer when it comes to this type of product, so you can easily layer this blush without going overboard from the get-go. I also find myself skipping highlighter on days when I reach for this blush since it provides such a nice glow on its own. The powder blends with ease and gives a beautiful natural-looking flush to the cheeks. I already know it will be my go-to for the coming months!

The next product I tried out is the Sothys Poudre Bronzante in 40 Terre Lointaine ($61.50). Their bronzers are some of my favourites because they work very well on my skin tone, which alternates between light to medium throughout the year. Once again, this matte powder is very buildable so I can intensify the bronzed effect during the summer months when I have more pigment to my skin. It does not pull orange or muddy and blends out with ease as well. This bronzing powder also has a subtle vanilla scent to it which brings nostalgic memories of a sunscreen I often used growing up, making me long for those hot summer months even more!

Sothys Ombre Eye Quartet Palette 40 Harmonie de Tons Nude

I've also been playing with the Sothys Ombre Eye Quartet Palette in 40 Harmonie de Tons Nude ($68.50), which includes four iridescent shadows: a pearl shade, a champagne shade, a taupe shade and a dark brown, making it perfect for an everyday wearable look or for a more blown out smoky look. I like to test out eyeshadows without a primer to see how they apply and wear, and the verdict on this quad is that these shadows are nicely pigmented and long-lasting, and I haven't experienced any creasing or fading when wearing them. I also haven't experienced any fallout during the application or throughout the day so I can attest to the high quality of these shadows. These colours are ones I typically reach for the most in my collection, so I know I will be getting a lot of use out of this palette.

Sothys Contour Lip Pencil 10 Teinte Universelle Lip Crayon 10 Fuchsia Fauve 20 Rouge Orange

A product that really intrigued me is the Sothys Contour Lip Pencil in 10 Teinte Universelle ($24.00). I usually skip using a lip liner, but after recently getting my makeup done at the Charlotte Tilbury beauty counter at Holt Renfrew Ogilvy and seeing the difference that using one actually makes on my lips, I am now hooked. The cool thing about this one is that it is a universal shade so it can be combined with any lip colour to have your pout looking its best. You can draw the liner on all over your lips as a base to make your final lip colour last longer, use it on its own for a pretty nude look, or simply use it to outline the contour of your lips and fill the rest in with your desired colour, which is what I did to create the look in this video. The formula is on the creamier side and does not tug at the lips, and on its own, it's pretty long-lasting too!

I also received two of their Lip Crayons, one in 10 Fuschia Fauve and the other in 20 Rouge Orangé ($35.95 each). They come in a twist tube that does not require sharpening and combined with the lip pencil, they wear nicely without having to worry about the colour bleeding outside of my lips. Fuschia Fauve is a deep pink, and Rouge Orangé is a coral red which I ended up reaching for to create the look below. They both have a nice sheen to them without being overly sticky. They also have a delicious blackberry scent. The formula is very moisturizing thanks to shea butter and castor oil and does not accentuate dryer areas. It also contains brown algae, which provides a lip-plumping effect.

Voilà!

Sothys Vernis 313 Fuchsia Fauve

Lastly, this collection also includes a luminous finish nail polish, the Sothys Vernis in 313 Fuschia Fauve ($19.00). The formula is very smooth, not too runny nor too thick and is enriched with vitamins B5, C and E as well as sweet almond oil to protect and nourish the nails. I actually only applied one coat in the picture you see above, but some of my nails slightly chipped the next day so I would recommend applying two coats as well as a top coat to get longer wear. I know I will be getting a lot of use out of this colour because I always gravitate towards similar ones in the summer, especially on my toes.

You can see all of these Sothys products in action (I'm even wearing the nail polish!) in this video:
