LATHER Cleansing Oil, Facial Mist, Hair Wash and Conditioner | Review
Nothing excites me more than putting a new-to-me brand to the test, especially ones I have not heard much about and that are also mindful of the ingredients they use in their products. I had come across LATHER* a few times over the last few months through fellow bloggers' reviews, so they had definitely piqued my curiosity. They have actually been around for a while, with the first boutique opening in California back in 1999! Lucky for us non-golden state residents, they also have an online store and ship to Canada as well as a handful of other countries. I got to pick out a couple of products from both their skincare and hair care lines and have been using them for the last few months and am ready to share my thoughts!
If you are looking for a no-fuss product to remove your makeup and cleanse your face at the end of the day, the Chia Seed & Passion Fruit Cleansing Oil (US$22, 4 fl oz or 118 mL) does not disappoint - it has been my go-to since first use! Truth be told, I had never come across chia seed in skincare, but I'm a huge fan of adding the superfood to my smoothies and oatmeal! On top of chia seed and passion fruit oil, the formula also contains grapeseed oil, safflower seed oil, vitamin E, orange flower oil and tangerine peel oil. The pump dispenser expels the oily blend, and once mixed with water, it emulsifies into a milky consistency - it's actually super cool! It's very gentle on the skin and smells lovely too, and I love how I can use it on my eyes as well without irritating them.
Now that the warm weather is here to stay, I've been reaching for a facial refresher a lot more often and the Cucumber & Ginseng Facial Mist (US$17, 6 fl oz or 177 mL) has been a welcome addition to my routine. What I appreciate most is the generous amount that comes in the spray bottle - I've been misting my face twice to three times daily and there is still so much product left! I am not the biggest fan of the scent sadly - I think it might be the algae or fennel extract which is a bit too strong for my liking, but I will definitely still be using this bottle up until the last spray! The vegan formula is alcohol-free and also contains aloe vera, witch hazel, vetiver oil and ylang ylang oil and it doubles as a toner as well.
It's been a while since I found a sulfate-free natural shampoo I would highly recommend and the Baobab & Shea Hair Wash (US$24, 8 fl oz or 236 mL) has quickly made it to the top of my list! It is targeted to those who are more prone to damaged hair (ie. from heat styling) or hair that is generally harder to work with, however it still works wonders on my hair even though I rarely style it. Other key ingredients include barley protein, ginger root oil, mandarin orange peel oil, basil oil and celery seed oil - now that is an interesting mix if I do say so myself, but it smells surprisingly good and my hair is not weighed down and actually feels super clean after each wash!
The Baobab & Shea Conditioner (US$24, 8 fl oz or 236 mL) has very similar ingredients to the hair wash, but the scent is quite different and not really my cup of tea - I prefer how the shampoo smells, but like the facial mist, it's not a deal breaker for me as it still performs really well. This silicone-free conditioner is great if you have colour-treated or stressed hair. Despite containing various plant oil extracts, it does not leave my hair feeling greasy or looking flat. Instead, my hair looks voluminous and feels incredibly soft.
Overall, I am quite happy with the products I tried from LATHER! If you are looking for more natural alternatives to some of your conventional skin and hair products, you might just find a new favourite in this brand!
