Make Up For Ever Artist Rouge Lipsticks | Review + Swatches
I like to think that I've come a pretty long way when it comes to wearing lipsticks - at first I hated their texture and avoided them altogether, but then progressively warmed up to them, only sticking to "my lips but better" shades. In recent years however, I've become much more adventurous and enjoy wearing bolder hues such as bright corals, deep reds and even plums. Make Up For Ever has just come out with their new Artist Rouge Lipstick Collection*, and when MUFE comes out with new lipsticks, you know there are bound to be fun and out of the box colours to choose from. I received a surprise package from the brand containing six lipsticks from their new line, including shades I've never tried before (blue and taupe lips anyone?). They have also collaborated with Swedish electropop singing duo Icona Pop to release two limited-edition lipsticks, which I have to share with you below.
The collection contains 45 lipsticks that are split into two finishes: 31 cream shades and 14 matte shades. They are very opaque and moisturizing, thanks to key ingredients such as macadamia oil, sunflower seed and carnauba wax. Even better, they are also long-lasting, with cream shades said to last up to 8 hours and matte shades up to 10 hours. The pointed bullet tip was designed to facilitate application, although I still find myself reaching for a lip brush when it comes to darker shades so that I can get a super crisp, precise line. The sleek packaging has a nice weight to it, giving it that luxurious feel.
C105 Grege Beige* is a very creamy natural nude. I haven't had much luck with nude shades in the past as I find they usually wash me out, but this one is actually really flattering on my skin tone. I think it would suit anyone with light to medium skin. I would go as far as saying that this is the best nude shade I have come across, I absolutely adore it!
C211 Rose Wood* is a universal shade that looks beautiful on any skin tone. It's a mix between pink and brown, giving it that dusty rose look which I am a fan of. It brings a bit more attention to your lips, but is still subtle enough that you don't notice it from a mile away.
M401 Hot Red* is a limited edition shade curated by Caroline of Icona Pop. I am definitely a sucker when it comes to bright reds, and this one isn't any different. The shade was created with tan skin tones in mind, but as you can see I can still pull it off very easily.
C502 Taupe Violet* is definitely worthy of its name. I really like that depending on the lighting and your natural lip shade, this lipstick can come off as more lilac or grey. I didn't think this would look flattering on me whatsoever, but I was surprised that I actually really like how it looks on my lighter skin!
C603 Midnight Blue* is the other limited edition shade in the collection curated by Aino of Icona Pop. Super edgy and in your face, this deep blue is most definitely a show-stopper. I don't plan on wearing this out and about anytime soon (with the exception of Halloween, maybe?), but for those who are looking for a blue lipstick and aren't afraid to rock it, I say go for it!
C506 Dark Purple* is a deep burgundy shade that screams fall. I don't know about you, but I always gravitate towards these hues come autumn, so I know I'll be reaching for this lipstick in the coming months. If you are a fan of berry shades, you might want to check this one out!
The new Make Up For Ever Artist Rouge Lipsticks retail for C$27.00 or US$22.00 and can be purchased at Sephora, both in stores and online.
