I used to reach for very high coverage foundations (I even filmed My Acne Coverage Foundation Routine showing you my go-to full coverage foundation in one of my earliest videos), but over the past year or so I've been gravitating toward more sheer base makeup. My skin is still far from flawless, but I've come to terms with my imperfections and don't feel as bothered if a scar or breakout is not perfectly covered. I was really happy to see that Make Up For Ever just came out with their new Water Blend Face and Body Foundation*, said to provide a your-skin-but-better coverage that looks natural and stays put throughout the day. I don't recall ever trying a water-based foundation so I was really excited to give one a go.
I received shades Y225 Marble*, Y245 Soft Sand* and Y305 Soft Beige*. Similar to their Ultra HD Foundation, the shades are split into two categories to suit both red and yellow skin undertones. The shade selection is half that of the Ultra HD Foundation (20 vs 40 shades), however finding your best match shouldn't be too hard - I personally get more overwhelmed when there are more shades to choose from.

I used shade Y305 Soft Beige to demo since my skin is currently tanned (hello summer!). I used my Real Techniques Buffing Brush to apply.

I've tried this once so far, and got frustrated that it was giving me zero coverage that I wiped it all off and used a different foundation, haha. I definitely plan to try it again though, because lots of people love it! I think the problem was that I was specifically looking for a full coverage foundation in that moment (I was doing a glam look for an event) and that was just not near enough coverage for me, so I'm going to try it again on a day that I'm doing a natural look!

I know so many people love this foundation, but my ride or die is still Estee Lauder's Double Wear. I guess I'm a full coverage girl at heart. I'm sure I'll give this one a go eventually.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy the sheer base makeup, it just feels more natural. Glad you've got on board.
