The Sunscreen Edit | 11 Skin Care Products with SPF to Suit Your Needs and Budget

The Sunscreen Edit

As I was cleaning my office the other day and sorting through my desk drawers (which is also where I happen to store the majority of my skin care products), it came to my attention that I have a LOT of sunscreen. Granted, half of these I received in the last few months from various brands and as crazy as it may sound, I have actually been able to put each one to the test since the weather has been so hot and sunny this summer, so I thought it was about time I sat down and shared my stash with you. Here we go!

On the pricier end, I am a big fan of the La Roche-Posay Anthelios Mist XL SPF 50* and Anthelios Ultra-Fluid Lotion SPF 60*, both of which I have previously reviewed in this post. I have continued using them this year and love that they are scent-free and don't leave any visible residue or a greasy film. If you are looking for a mineral sunscreen, the Bioderma Photoderm Mineral SPF 50+ Spray* is a fantastic one too (more on it here). I've also been enjoying the Sothys Face and Body Protective Lotion SPF 30* ($82.00, 125 mL) which has a deep floral scent. Active ingredients include sunflower extract and calcified algae, which both help fight infrared radiation and also soothe the skin by diminishing the appearance of sunburn cells.

From the drugstore, I have also been trying out some affordable options. The Aveeno Protect + Hydrate SPF 60 Face and Body Sunscreen* is both hydrating and water resistant for 80 minutes, while the Aveeno Baby SPF 50 Face Mineral Sunscreen* is in stick form and a good option for those who have sensitive skin. The Neutrogena UltraSheer Face & Body Stick Sunscreen SPF 50* resembles a stick deodorant and melts on contact with the skin. I had never tried a stick sunscreen before this one, and I really like that you can get a hands-free and mess-free application. The Neutrogena Beach Defense SPF 60 Sunscreen Lotion* is lightweight and oil-free and doesn't leave a white cast. I feel like sunscreen formulations have come a long way since I was a kid as they feel much lighter on the skin these days.

If you are mindful of what you put on your skin, I also have a few recommendations for you. The Paula's Choice Moisture Boost Daily Restoring Complex SPF 30* (reviewed here) is probably my favourite of the bunch. It is fragrance-free and absorbs quickly and contains antioxidants and aloe vera juice, among other skin-friendly ingredients. If you are looking for 100% natural, chemical-free options, I am a big fan of the Green Beaver SPF 30 Lotion and 100% Pure Everywhere Sun Stick SPF 30, the latter of which I will be taking with me on my upcoming vacation since it is so compact and travel-friendly.

  1. great post! I have been using the La Roche Posay for years and loving it but would like to try other ones which are just as good. I think I would try the Bioderma one. I haven't tried any mineral sunscreen before and after reading your review, think I am convinced.

  3. Hey! loved the collection. Aveeno is my favorite sunscreen. It moisturize my skin and my skin looks fresh and healthy. Beside this, it improves the look of the brown spots.
