NEW in Skincare: NIOD Multi-Molecular Hyaluronic Complex | First Impression

I wrote a post a couple of years ago about a product that hit the beauty community by storm for its key ingredient, hyaluronic acid, and as I was curious to see the results for myself, I not surprisingly got sucked into buying it too (more on that here). I ended up really liking it and have repurchased the product quite a few times since, so when I was offered to try new skincare brand NIOD's (or Non-Invasive Options in Dermal Science) Multi-Molecular Hyaluronic Complex* which just launched, I jumped at the opportunity. Hyaluronic acid has gotten a lot of attention in recent years. If you haven't heard of this coveted acid before, it is considered to be one of the best skincare ingredients to boost moisture as it can hold up to 1,000 times its own weight in water... say what?

Although we produce our own hyaluronic acid within our body, functioning as a natural lubricant inside our joints and eyes and also as a cushion under our skin to keep it nice and plump, we can also benefit from it when used topically to make skin feel hydrated on the surface as well. The issue however has been to develop particles that are small enough to penetrate the skin and recent advancements have allowed for just that. NIOD's Multi-Molecular Hyaluronic Complex is a serum that was developed with 12 different hyaluronic acid compounds from non-animal biotechnology sources which serve three distinct functions, and I have the inside scoop:

1. HA Pre-Cursors: These compounds basically act like a cushion, similar to how our body naturally produces them as a filling agent under our skin. They work to tighten the skin by filling fine lines and wrinkles and thus act to appease and also prevent the first signs of aging thanks to their smoothing and plumping properties.

2. Lower-Molecule-HA Compounds: These come in many shapes and sizes and provide water-based lubrication. It is said that even young skin can benefit from these particular compounds since even our body does not produce them naturally. Since it penetrates many skin layers from the dermis up, it increases suppleness and hydration.

3. Higher-Molecule-HA Compounds: As you may be guessing, these work on the skin's surface (as has been traditionally used in skincare) since they create an oil-free moisture-loss barrier. The difference with those contained in this formula however is that they do not interfere with other, smaller compounds.

Now that we've gotten the complicated science part out of the way, you can probably understand just how powerful this product is. To sum it all up, it basically increases the penetration capacity of our skin, allowing other products to work even better. I've recently added the serum to my routine, using it both morning and night after cleansing and just before applying moisturizer. Even for the little time I've been using it, I can definitely feel the difference. My skin tends to get dry especially on my cheeks and on the outer portion of my face and just adding a few drops of this serum has made my routine that much more efficient since it is designed to complement and increase the benefits of what you are already using on the daily.

The NIOD Multi-Molecular Hyaluronic Complex ($60.00 CAD, 30 ml) can be purchased online here.

Have you heard of hyaluronic acid? Do you use products containing it in your routine?

  1. Jeebus, this does sound incredible. I've started getting dryness in random parts of my face and so far haven't been able to get it sorted, but this sure sounds like it would help.

  2. I have been using this as well and enjoying it! HA is amazing and though the term gets thrown around a lot, it's hard to find HA that's biocompatible. My first impressions of this are positive as well!

  5. Hello Natalie

I am currently transitioning my current skin care regimen to NIOD regimen and below is what I am doing:

    Morning

    LVCE
    CAIS
    MMHC
    HV
    Lytera (from Skinmedica for Hyperpigmentation)
    Sunscreen

    Night

    LVCE
    CAIS (wait 30-min)
    Retin-A (wait 30-min)
    TNS Serum
    MMHC
    ELAN
    NAAP
    HV
    Eyecream

I hope you will indulge me and answer a few questions.

    1. Is my regimen and the sequence correct? Do you see any issues here?

    2. I currently use a Clarisonic brush with a cleanser. I use this to get better cleaning, unclog pores, prevent acne etc. What are your thoughts on mechanical exfoliation using Clarisonic? Would I be able to use Clarisonic with LVCE?

    3. I have also been using a chemical peel (twice a week with Salicylic acid, Lactic acid and Glycolic acid) and also a 5% Glycolic acid toner every day mainly for exfoliation, removing blemishes and for even skin tone and texture - as well as reducing pores. From what I understand, NIOD philosophy does not recommend AHA/BHA acids. So, would using NAAP alone accomplish the same results as chemical peels and toner? Or would you recommend using NAAP in addition to chemical peels and acid toner?

    4. I currently use 0.25% Retin-A. Would it be ok to use both Retin-A and NAAP on the same night?

    5. Do you recommend using a moisturizing cream in addition to HV? My skin is combination, acne prone and on the oily side.

    6. I use Skinceuticals tinted sunscreen. Would photography fluid work well on top of tinted sunscreens?

    Appreciate your help!
