Oh Valentine's Day... some dread it, some love it, and then there's those of us who really look forward to it to see what makeup brands come up with *raises hand*. I'm sure by now you've all heard of the Fifty Shade of Grey trilogy, but what you might not know is that Make Up For Ever is the official makeup partner of the hottest movie to hit theaters this year on Valentine's Day. Now, I haven't read the book or plan on seeing the movie, but upon hearing about the Fifty Shades of Grey limited edition spring collection, I knew I had to share! Make Up For Ever is known to make stunning long lasting lip products, so I decided to give the new Tease Me Berry Lip Trio Set in Passionate* a try.
The set comes with three products: an Aqua Lip lip pencil in 10C Matte Raspberry, a limited edition Aqua Rouge Lipstick in shade 50 along with clear gloss, and a Lab Shine Lip Gloss in D4 Shimmering Grenadine. I opted for the berry trio in Passionate over the Innocent nude set because of course I cannot resist a statement lip colour! Price-wise, the trio goes for C$38, which I think is really good value. The lip pencils usually retail for C$23, the Aqua Rouge lip colors for C$29, and the Lab Shine glosses for C$22 for a grand total of C$74, so you basically save C$36, or nearly 50% off than if you were to buy each product individually. Now that's what I call a good deal!
The Aqua Lip Waterproof Lip Liner Pencil in 10C has quickly won me over. I would describe it as a mix of pink and purple, definitely a shade for the bold. And Make Up For Ever isn't kidding when they say it is smudge-proof and waterproof! I've been wearing all three products together as I like how they look combined, and the lip liner is always the last one to fade despite me eating, drinking, and talking for hours. The first time I wore the trio I headed to work and by the end of my shift some eight hours after application, I caught myself in the mirror with only berry lined lips - let's just say I looked quite ridiculous - so lesson learned: bring the other two products with me to re-apply throughout the day, or use the lip liner all over my lips to begin with. Overall, this lip liner lasted a whopping 12 hours on me (crazy right?), and I still had to gently scrub my lips to get every last trace off.
The Aqua Rouge Waterproof Liquid Lip Color in shade 50 is double ended: you get the actual liquid lip color and a clear gloss. This product did not last as long as the liner, but it still held up a good 5-6 hours on my lips before completely fading. The pigmented lip color comes with a doe foot applicator, which allows for good control, while the gloss comes with a brush tip. It is probably one of the most long lasting liquid lip products I have tried. I love that it doesn't feel heavy or clumpy, and it does not dry out my lips or emphasize any cracks or dry spots. I also did not have any issues with the color bleeding which often happens with darker shades The colour is gorgeous and I like that you have the option to create a matte look or add some shine too with a bit of gloss.
The Lab Shine Gloss in D4 comes with a brush tip and I find the colour to look like a sheer pink on its own. It is slightly textured, having visible shimmer which reflects beautifully in the light. I'm not a huge fan of lip glosses because most of the ones I have tried have that sticky feel, so I was hoping this one would be an exception. I was disappointed in that regard as it does feel rather sticky. Also to keep in mind: this is a gloss that you will have to re-apply every few hours as it does fade quickly.
In the picture above, I used the lip pencil to outline my lips, then applied the lip color all over. I used the clear gloss on my upper lip and the Lab Shine gloss on my lower lip so that you can see the difference between the two.

I don't know how long lip liners typically last, but even 12 hours sounds impressive! SERIOUSLY LOVING THAT AQUA ROUGE 50 SHADE--been seriously loving darker lipstick shades as of late! Those two products look pretty good on your lips!
