Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Makeup Foundation

One of the makeup products I promised myself to try this year is the very popular Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Makeup Foundation. I cannot even count on my two hands how many bloggers and vloggers I have come across who have shared their profound love for this little luxury. In fact, it was ranked #1 on my Beauty Wishlist for 2014. It didn't take long before I cracked and made my way to the Estée Lauder counter inside Hudson's Bay. To my disbelief, my Sephora doesn't carry this brand, and so my brain's beauty radar directed me a few blocks down the street to check HBC and luckily they had it. The only other product I've tried from Estée Lauder is their Advanced Night Repair Eye Synchronized Complex (reviewed here), so I was really looking forward to trying their cosmetics.

I got matched by an SA, and in store the shade looked quite yellow for my skin tone, but I convinced myself it was probably the lighting and that this gentleman knew what he is doing, I mean he does work there and does this all the time! Sadly, as soon as I got home and tried it all on my face, it was way too much of a cool tone for me. So I had to return the next day to exchange it, and funny enough it seems this employee has a tendency to match people wrongly since the lady straight away asked if I had been served by the male employee. Lesson learned ladies: trust your gut and don't be scared to tell a professional if you think a product or shade is off or not right for you!

I was first matched to 2C1 Pure Beige, but my correct shade is in fact 1N1 Ivory Nude, and I have been using this foundation this past winter season since my skin is at its palest right now and this is the lightest shade in the neutral range. I have a lot of redness and hyper pigmentation and after using it for over four months now all I can say is that it is the perfect liquid foundation for me. It is full coverage, isn't too thick nor too thin, blends effortlessly, and keeps me 100% shine-free all day long. It feels very smooth once applied, doesn't cake up on me, and feels like second skin. This is now my go-to foundation when I have 8+ hour days since my makeup does not budge - seriously, my makeup looks as good when I get home as it does when I am leaving in the morning! The only other foundation that keeps me shine-free is the Covergirl Outlast Stay Fabulous 3 in 1 Foundation (reviewed here), so if you are looking for a cheaper alternative I would highly recommend you try that one out too.

Slightly yellow on my arm but perfect on my face - does anyone else have darker skin on their face?

The Estée Lauder Stay-in-Place Makeup Foundation is the most I have ever payed for a foundation, priced at CA$44.00, and that is definitely what made me wait so long before trying it, but after a while I deemed it worthy enough of getting. Was it worth the investment? Without a doubt, yes!

Have you tried this foundation? Do you like it as much as I do?

  1. Oh I'm glad this one's a hit for you Natalie! Especially at that price. I haven't tried it but last summer my go to was EL DayWear BB and I loved it. Their Sumptuous mascara is amazing btw. :)

  2. I've heard so much about this foundation and would love to try it! That part of everybody's arm is the lightest part of the arm, it doesn't see sunlight as much and I don't think it's that you're darker but maybe your undertone is stronger in the face than that part of your arm! My face is the second lightest part of my body next to all the covered bits! My arms and legs are 3-4 shades darker no kidding!

  5. I agree. It is expensive but worth it. And the good news in the US anyway is you can get a free 10 day sample to try out the foundation at home.

  8. Too yellow! I always argue about my suggested matches and since I am a professional too I have no problem speaking up lol. Not everyone is good at what they do and that goes for most professions. The good thing about Sephora is that you can return it and get another color. A lot of the time I ask for samples before I purchase, that way I can go home and test out a few shades before I buy anything. I think you can get up to 3 samples per visit. The skin on my face is lighter, a lot lighter than on my arms and hands...I have no idea why lol.

  9. I was eyeing this foundation and was going to buy it but then I brought home a sample of the Clinique Even Better foundation and I liked that a bit better so I got that instead :) I might have to give this a go after my Clinique one is out though!
They sell Estee Lauder at the Sephora by me, weird :/

  10. OMG YES. Too often I have been mismatched at Sephora regarding foundation. But then again, my skintone is some whack ass chameleon sht so I don't blame them. (Also, I was admiring this photo on Instagram....creepy? But I really like the bokeh/out of focus elements in the first photo) Anyways, this has been on my list of to-try for the longest time now! I think one thing that's deterring me right now though, is the heavy coverage, since we're moving into the warmer months where BBs/tinted moisturizers are ~in season~

  11. I so need to try this, although I just don't think they'll have a shade pale enough and I refuse to go to a counter to get matched up as they never ever get it right for me :( xx
