March 2014 Empties

The most satisfying time of the month has arrived! I'll be breaking down to you the various beauty products I've used up over the last few weeks. Empties posts are some of my favorites to read and write - I just love the idea of sharing what has or hasn't been working for me, and hopefully this can help some of you in determining if some of these products are worth the try.

If you've been following my blog for a while, you would know that the Cetaphil Daily Facial Moisturizer is my holy grail face cream. It's really great under makeup since it absorbs really quickly, so it's perfect to use in the morning when I'm rushing out the door for school or work. It is scentless and also contains a SPF of 15. It doesn't clog my pores and has a very light-weight feel. Cetaphil is also dermatologist recommended, and it has never caused my acne-prone skin to break out.

I also finished the Mavala Double-Lash treatment. This was my first time using an eyelash growth serum, and I definitely noticed my lashes gradually lenghten while using this. It takes about 30 days to see full results, but this bottle lasted me just over 2 months, and I would apply the serum nightly. If you are looking for an inexpensive eyelash growth treatment, I highly urge to give this little gem a try! (full review here).

Next up, my trusty Maybelline Great Lash Clear Mascara. I can't even tell you how many tubes of this stuff I've gone through! I use it to set my eyebrows after filling them in, and it keeps them in place throughout the day. I've been recently branching out and trying the one by Essence, which I've been liking as well. If you are looking for a cheap eyebrow gel that gets the job done, you can't go wrong with this one!

I was beyond excited to get my hands on a sample of the Benefit POREfessional Face Primer. I kept on hearing how amazing it was, and it is hands down the best primer I have ever tried. It helps my foundation go on smoother, and makes my face makeup last longer too. The primer is beige in the tube but fades to my skin color once applied. It is non-greasy and scent-free. I just love it and really need to get the full sized version!

Getting into dental hyginene, the Crest Pro-Health Complete Mouthwash has become my new favorite. I had been using the Professional Effects one previously, but switched over to this one since my dentist recommended I try one that contains fluoride and is alcohol free. Although it's a little pricier, it is definitely worth the extra money.

Another product you might have already come across me raving about is the Organix Renewing Morrocan Argan Deep Penetrating Oil. The nutty smell is just divine, and it just brings back intense moisture to my ends. I can definitely tell when I forget to use it as my hair is dry and brittle. It is also sulfate free and absorbs within 10 minutes. This little bottle lasts me half a year as I only need to use a very small amount each time (full review here).

The Covergirl Flamed Out Mascara was just okay for me. It isn't the worst nor is it the best mascara I have tried. The wand has a wavy shape, but despite that it didn't add much curl to my lashes. It separated my lashes and added a bit of length, but in terms of adding volume it did not perform well enough as I would have liked (full review here).

I've been trying a new hair product this time, the L'Oréal Arginine Resist X3 Shampoo. It's supposed to be nourishing since it also contains protein, but I didn't find it did much for my hair. The scent wasn't anything special, and it didn't linger very long in my hair. I would say to skip trying this shampoo since there are better ones at the drugstore, my favorite being the Garnier Fructis range.

Another eye product I've emptied is the Essence All Eyes On Me Multi-Effect Mascara. The formula was a little too dry for my liking, but considering its super affordable price tag, it still performed quite well on my lashes. It wasn't extremely volumizing, but added some length and was good at separating my lashes. I've previously tried the Essence Get Big Lashes which was okay too, but plan on trying a different one again from the brand next time I'm in need of a new mascara. Let me know what your favorite Essence mascara is below!

Finally, I've used up the Lush Grease Lighting Tea Tree Cleanser. This product is well-loved by many, but sadly I did not notice any improvements in my skin when using it. It is a no rinse gel, and I would apply it at night before bed. Tea tree is said to help treat active breakouts and is also supposed to heal scarring. I've heard good things about some of the tea tree products from the Body Shop, so I am thinking of giving one of those a try soon.

Have you tried any of these products? What products did you finish this month?

  9. I love Cetaphil. It's such an overlooked brand. I use their face wash daily. It's the only one that doesn't irritate my sensitive skin.

  10. I've been struggling to find a good cream that's lightweight, quick absorbing and still moisturizing, and the Cetaphil one sounds like a winner. Definitely going to be keeping my eyes open!

  14. Too bad the Lush cleanser didn't seem to work well. I was very close to trying it out the last time I visited a Lush store. I'm glad I didn't try it. However, I have been pleased with most things that I bought from Lush. (visiting from the blog hop)

  16. I love Cetaphil products! I have sensitive skin and their products are so mild that I don't have problems at all. I tried ELF primer before but it left my face so oily that I stopped using it, will check if I can find Benefit POREfessional here.

  17. great post! I haven't liked the essence clear brow gel, it's not as strong as others i have tried. my skin is terrible at the moment so i am trying anything to get it under control, including dermalogica and kiehls at the moment! the body shop tea tree is good but very strong depending what you use.
