Spring 2014 Makeup Trends Inspired Tutorial

I am a member of the Collective Bias® Social Fabric® Community. This shop has been compensated as part of a social shopper amplification for Collective Bias and its advertiser.

With all of the beautiful spring makeup collections being released, I wanted to create a look inspired by the spring 2014 makeup trends. I decided to play with some blue eye shadows which will be very "in" this coming spring and I came up with a wearable smoky eye look. As a base, I chose a foundation that provides a healthy glow and I also went with a bold orange lip shade, which have both been trending for the past couple of seasons and will still remain very popular in the upcoming spring months.

As part of this #CollectiveBias shop, I purchased a few makeup products from Shopper's Drug Mart, which is my all time favourite drugstore and is where I purchase most of my cosmetics. Whenever I have too much time on my hands (thank you in-between class breaks!), I like to go to the one conveniently located right by my university campus and check out all the new makeup releases and sales. You know you are a makeup addict when you collect most of your Shopper's Optimum points by spending money on beauty products, and then just end up spending all of your rewards on even more makeup!

I had never tried Revlon eye shadows before, and when I saw the new ColorStay 16 Hour Quad in Free Spirit, I knew it would be perfect to come up with a pretty blue eye shadow look. I also picked up the Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation which I kept on hearing such great things about, and it was on sale for only $8.99, such a bargain! Finally, I decided to go with the Revlon Cream Blush in Pinched (and which was also on sale!) - a versatile shade to balance out the blue eye shadow look and orange lips.

After moisturizing my skin, I started off with a thin layer of foundation to cover up any redness. The key to a flawless makeup look is to always have a clean, evened-out canvas so that all of the products that will be applied will show up true to colour. I also covered up my dark circles and blemishes with a touch of concealer to really wake me up!

I then applied Pinched with a stippling blush to bring out my cheekbones. This shade is so beautiful and can basically go with any look. Peach blushes are definitely my favourite, and I am glad I now have this one in my collection.

For the eyes, I first placed the nude shadow in my crease to give it more dimension as the shade is slightly darker than my skin colour. I then applied the darkest shade all over my lid with a light hand since I didn't want the look to be too dark. I added the dark blue on the outer corner to define and the light blue in the inner corner to highlight my eyes.

Finally, for the lips, I applied some lip balm followed by my favourite orange lipstick which also happens to be from the drugstore - the Maybelline Vivid Lipstick in Electric Orange. I like that it is more of a tamed orange that can almost pass as a coral shade. It is definitely very wearable, and applies super smoothly too.

Below is the completed look, with my eye brows filled and mascara applied. I am so happy with the way my makeup turned out and can't wait to recreate this look many more times this spring! :)

What do you think of this look? Are you a fan of blue eye shadow and orange lips?

  11. Why? Those trends were all bold separately. Your contacts paired with the grey blue eye and the bold orange lip is a little much. My eyes dont know what feature to go to...
