Using Witch Hazel as a Facial Toner

If you are looking for an all natural way to tone your face, look no further! I have been using witch hazel for over 6 months now, and it is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G at getting rid of impurities on my skin (it's my "stubborn makeup dissolver" ;). For those of you who don't know, the use of a facial toner is an important step in anyone's skin care regimen since it balances the pH of your skin. That means that it will eliminate the excess oil that your skin is producing without drying out your skin. It is a commonly used ingredient in many skin care products. After doing some research on its benefits, I just had to test it out, and was definitely not disappointed! If you are an acne sufferer like me, it will help reduce breakouts and diminish the size of your pores since it goes deep into your pores to prevent bacteria build-up.

Witch hazel is actually a herb that comes from a tree of the same name. It has anti-inflammatory properties and can also be used to help heal bruises, sores, and insect bites. When it comes to application, a cotton round is all you need. I usually apply witch hazel at night, after having cleansed my face, right before applying moisturizer. The smell can be a little off-putting since it is an astringent, so it does take some getting used to. I just hold my breath on days I can't handle the smell (lol)! Once on your skin though, the smell does not linger. You will also feel a tightening sensation, which is perfectly normal...that just means it is working its magic! It is totally worth trying, you will see the benefits within a couple of weeks! You can read more raving reviews here!

Distilled witch hazel is super affordable, and can be found in the pharmaceutical aisle at the drugstore, where they carry astringents/insect bite creams (I found mine at Walmart for $4!)

Let me know if you've tried this out! :)

  3. I'm actually using a cleanser right now that is made of Witch Hazel. It is made by Dickinson's and so far I am loving it! I still have a little oil, but I think once I switch to using witch hazel as a toner, I might be good to go! I used to use witch hazel more often, and I can't remember why I quit.
