How to clean your makeup brushes for really cheap!

Hi you! :)

Just wanted to share with you two really inexpensive ways to clean makeup brushes. I know how makeup brush cleansers can put a big hole in your wallet, and these methods I use are just as efficient as 'labelled' brush cleansers and come at a fraction of the cost!

For deep cleaning:
I use plain old antibacterial soap, and it can be from any brand, just as long as it says 'antibacterial' on the bottle. This is important since an antibacterial soap will really get rid of any bacteria that is sitting on the bristles. This method  does not leave the bristles dry, and my brushes really look and actually are squeaky clean! I simply pour a tiny amount of soap on my hand, wet it a little, and go back and forth on my hand with the brush and rinse and squeeze out all of the soapy water. Make sure you never get any water above the ferrule of your brush (the metallic part) since getting some in there might loosen the glue that holds the bristles together and cause them to fall. I recommend deep cleaning your brushes at least once a week.

For spot cleaning:
I use isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol, which kills bacteria instantly. I buy a big bottle and transfer some into a travel size spray bottle, spray some on a paper towel, and go back and forth on it with my brush and repeat the process for all of my brushes until all the color has transferred onto the paper towel. I spot clean my brushes before every use, just to be on the safe side since I am prone to breakouts and try my best to avoid spreading unwanted bacteria
back on my face.

Best part? You can get both for under $5 at the drugstore or at the grocery store. Now that's a bargain! :)

What are your preferred methods for keeping your makeup brushes clean?

  2. Good tips - I've just used shampoo before as well ... worked pretty well but anti-bacterial soap does sound cleaner. I love your blog set up ... where did you get it?

    1. Thanks Mellissa! :) Under Template in your dashboard, just click on Customize and then it's the "Dynamic Views" category in the Templates category (you might have to click the arrow on the left of "Awesome Inc." to access it since "Dynamic Views" is the first option). Hope this helps!

  3. I've also used shampoo in the past... I'm gonna try this as well. :) And about your surname, I've found you through Amarixe's coments, are you Serbian/Croatian?
