Suzanne Somers is quite the iconic figure who has graced our television screens with her popular infomercials and entertainment endeavours - her regular TV appearances are actually how I first knew about her growing up! When I say Thigh Master, do you envision Suzanne Somers in a neon leotard squeezing a funny looking contraption to keeps her legs looking toned? Because I sure do! She has had quite the thrilling career, starting in acting roles and then venturing into singing, comedy and entrepreneurship, with many #1 New York Times bestselling books under her belt. She even appeared on Dancing with the Stars alongside Tony Dovolani in 2015. Side note: Can you believe she is 70 years old? Because I sure can't - she looks incredible! Little did I know that she had come out with her own cosmetics line recently, Suzanne Organics*. Being diagnosed with cancer in 2001 and beating it, she realized that what goes onto your skin is just as important as what goes into your body. As a cancer survivor, she became aware of the chemicals that are found in the cosmetics industry and how they can negatively impact one's health, and makeup is something she has loved playing with since a young age, so developing a natural beauty line of her own simply made sense!
All Suzanne Organics products are void of harmful toxins and have been developed with the purest plant extracts that are high quality and safe to use on the skin - meaning you don't have to worry about there being lead in your lipstick or petroleum in your eye cream. And you know that when there are ingredients such as raspberries, oranges, aloe and rice powder in your beauty products, that they smell pretty damn good too! I got to pick a handful of makeup and skincare to share with you, some of which are already holy grail contenders!
I created this simple summer makeup look using the following Suzanne Organics cosmetics:
I started off by applying two layers of the Suzanne Organics Sheer Flawless Foundation. This liquid foundation provides light to medium coverage with a semi-matte finish and is available in four shades, and I opted for the second lightest one called Natural Sand and this will be the perfect summer shade for me. It is slightly too dark for me at the moment because I am at my palest (it's been raining here for like the last 2 months, no joke), so I am currently mixing it with a drop of a lighter foundation. Despite layering it on with a flat top brush, it does not look cakey, but what I love most is that it doesn't even feel like I have anything on! The main ingredient is aloe vera, which makes the formula very moisturizing. Other extracts include castor and sesame seed oils, rosemary extract and acai and goji berries. It still looks great even after 8+ hours of wear and doesn't oxidize or fade.
To cover up my imperfections, I opted for the Suzanne Organics Perfect Finish Concealer. It comes in two shades, and I went for the lightest of the two, Light/Medium. This cream product blends nicely on the skin and provides just enough coverage. I use it on my acne scars and active breakouts and I love knowing that this product won't aggravate or irritate my problem skin. I first dip a brush into the pan and then blend it out with my fingers. This concealer contains lavender (one of my fave botanical extracts!) as well as shea and avocado oils and does a great job at evening out my skin tone and also prevent redness from peeking through.
I always need to set my base makeup as I have combination skin, so the Suzanne Organics Sheer Pressed Powder was the way to go! Housed in a compact, this finely-milled talc-free powder's key ingredients are tapioca and corn starch - food items you most likely have in your pantry! I always feel better when I use beauty products with ingredients I recognize such as bamboo powder, castor oil and witch hazel, and that certainly is the case with all products in this line. I used a big fluffy face brush and dusted some powder on my forehead, nose and chin to keep shine at bay throughout the day.
To sculpt and bring back colour to my face, I used the Suzanne Organics Contour Kit which comes with a highlighter, bronzer and contour shade. I actually used the bronzer as a blush since it has a pink tint to it. I applied the contour shade along my hairline, cheekbones and jawline, as well as right beneath my lower lip and on either side of my nose for added definition. The highlighter I used right on top of my blush, under my eyebrows and on my cupid's bow for an extra glow. What's great is that the shades are universal and can match any skin tone too.
While I tend to stick to matte foundations, I gravitate more toward shimmery shades for my eyes. The Suzanne Organics Golden Shimmer Eyeshadow features four versatile shades that are just lovely for everyday makeup. They include Stone (medium brown), Sparkling Champagne, Topaz Shimmer (purple-brown) and Spun Gold. You can keep it natural with just a swipe of colour or create a slightly smokier effect by deepening your crease with one of the darker shades. Made with aloe, sesame seed and rosehip oil just to name a few, the formula is easy to use and buildable as well! I love that the compact comes with a mirror too!
Now, the Suzanne Organics Lengthening Mascara I was super impressed with. As the name implies, it does an excellent job at making your lashes appear longer and more fluttery while effectively separating them at the same time. The brush is average size and tapers toward the tip to make it easier to coat your inner lashes without making a mess. I haven't experienced any flaking or clumping, and I love how ultra black it is! Conventional mascaras tend to have some scary ingredients such as artificial dyes, petroleum and fragrances however this one is made with the good stuff: jojoba, carnauba wax and cocoa butter, just to name a few.
To complete my makeup look, I went for the Suzanne Organics Sheer Satin Lipstick in Coral Crush. This ultra buttery lipstick is more of a muted coral shade and will look flattering on any skin tone. As you can see above, it looks very natural and subtle, definitely a 'my lips but better shade'. Made with cocoa and avocado butter and pigmented with berries, you don't have to worry about putting toxic chemicals into your body. It has a lovely orange scent and is super moisturizing - I can even skip lip balm prior to application!
I've also been trying out some products from the Suzanne Organics skincare range. Certified organic and toxic free, I picked two face products and a body product.
The Suzanne Organics Bioactive Moisturizer is a lightweight moisturizer that can be used both morning and night. The consistency is almost that of yogurt, and it melts into the skin with ease and absorbs within a couple of minutes, making it a great option to wear under makeup! It is made with sea buckthorn berry, aloe vera, argan oil and sweet almond oil. The scent isn't overpowering and is quite subtle, which I always appreciate.
I've also been enjoying the Suzanne Organics Anti-Aging Eye Cream. This product is on the thicker side, with a slightly whipped texture to it. The first thing I noticed when opening the jar is how fragrant it is, a mix between vanilla and apple. Just a dab goes a long way, and it is said to help with dark circles which I deal with on a regular basis. I haven't been using it long enough to notice a difference in that department, but I do love how soft my skin feels since starting use.
Last but not least, and probably my new favourite body product, the Suzanne Organics Nourishing Body Lotion in wild orange vanilla. I love using this right when I step out of the shower to lock in moisture and keep my skin soft and smooth all day long. This luxurious lotion is rich in omega fatty acids from botanicals and also contains safflower, macadamia oil, green tea oil and honeysuckle flower extract. Once again, this product has an invigorating scent that lasts for a good 4-5 hours. It's non-greasy which means you can slip into your clothes right after applying, perfect when you are rushing to get ready and out the door.
The Suzanne Organics line is 100% cruelty-free and made in the USA. You can rest assured that you are putting the best, most high-quality ingredients on your skin!
